, NUT Deputy General Secretary
Over the last year we’ve seen an upsurge in workers’ struggle in Britain, fighting back against the bosses’ and government offensive, emulating struggles taking place across Europe. Over 2 million workers went
on strike on 30 November to defend public sector pensions, while in the private sector, there have been strikes at Unilever and the incredible victory of the Sparks, the electricians in the construction industry.
The NSSN has been at the heart of all these and many other disputes, giving support, advice and encouragement.
We were initiated by the RMT - the railway workers’ union - in 2006 and are supported by six national unions.
This is our sixth annual conference and is open to all those in the union movement who want to fight to improve working conditions and defend the gains that the employers - private and public - are desperate to
take back. We also appeal to all those anti-cuts activists, if they aren't in a union or even at work. The NSSN has linked up with 'Youth Fight for Jobs' (YFJ) on their March for Jobs last autumn and in the battle against
Workfare this year and YFJ will speak at our event. We are campaigning for united resistance to the ConDem cuts.
Come to this event and meet up with workers, activists and union reps facing the same issues as you. Join the fightback!
