Call for national demo against Workfare

Dear Brother/Sister, I am writing to you on behalf of the Youth Fight for Jobs campaign. We would like to urgently meet with you to discuss jointly calling a national demonstration against workfare. It is clear that with mass unemployment particularly among young people, workfare has been and will be a cause of mass anger. We have already won successes with the companies involved and the government making concessions on a number of issues.

Dear Brother/Sister,

I am writing to you on behalf of the Youth Fight for Jobs campaign. We would like to urgently meet with you to discuss jointly calling a national demonstration against workfare. It is clear that with mass unemployment particularly among young people, workfare has been and will be a cause of mass anger. We have already won successes with the companies involved and the government making concessions on a number of issues.

This, however, doesnít mean we have ultimately won or that the issue of unemployment will go away. We think that people will be buoyed by those concessions and that will increase the confidence of people to fight. We need to act fast to build a movement that fights for a genuine programme of job creation and protects the conditions of those in work.

Thatís why we are inviting organisations like Right to Work, Boycott Workfare and the trade unions to join us in organising a national demonstration. YFJ is considering June as a possible time for this. We would like to meet with your organisation to discuss setting up a body to co-ordinate this.

If you would like to be involved please call us on 020 8558 7947 or email youthfightforjobs@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Comradely,

Paul Callanan,

Youth Fight for Jobs, National Organiser
